How far we’ve come…

I haven’t taken one of those comparison photos since Nathan turned 1 but I figured he was due on his second birthday. Boy how he’s grown!! He left that baby stage waaaaay behind at some point in the last year, that’s for sure.

New Stats

We had Nathans 18 month appointment recently. He’s still sticking right around the 50th percentile for height and weight- 27 lbs 12 oz and 31 3/4 inches. He’s grown quite a bit since his 15 month appointment when he was 24 lbs and 30 inches!

A charming smile for the camera.

Eating chocolate pudding. Just before this he’d tried to lick the inside of the cup…and you can see where that got him.

Um, yeah. I’m going to go cry in the other room now.
I’m not sad, just wistful and sentimental.

This Kid

When did he get so big? So independent? I watched him eat dinner on his own last night when we went out to eat. His highchair was pulled up close to the table and it looked like he was sitting with us, like really sitting with us, not just next to us in the highchair. He watched things going on around him and ate his food, like a kid, not a baby. And this kid, my kid, who would not eat any finger-food fruits or vegetables for months and months, dug into a big hunk of cantaloupe. He even chose it over a chicken finger as he contemplated what to pick up next. It was a seemingly normal moment, but I watched him for a few minutes in amazement. When did this all happen? I’ve seen it in bits and pieces, like when we realized he loved watermelon on our trip to Ithaca, or watched him suck down blueberries or enjoy a meal out with us in Ocean City, but somehow it really hit me last night. Maybe it’s that he just started in the Toddler room at daycare and now he’s napping on a cot, and eating at a little table with little chairs. Or maybe it’s that he’s so active and opinionated and understands so much of what we say now. It amazes me a little more every day.

Here’s Nathan sleeping on the beach during our trip to Ocean City last July. He was around three months old. I really wanted him to get to feel the sand on his feet, but he just wanted to nap.

And here he is this past weekend, just a couple days shy of 14 months. This time he enjoyed playing with the sand, and loved watching the birds and airplanes flying by.

Im such a sap for these comparisons.
